taken a lot of time. Thanks!
BioDiesel - Oil Price - Ethanol - Obviously as oil price goes up, the
alternative fuel keywords trend with the rise in oil price. The correlation is
fairly strong here.
Biodiesel was trending higher in the 2nd and 3rd Quarters of 2005. By 2006
Ethanol took over the leading trend very strongly.
Gold - Currency - Bonds - As can be expected this a very strong correlation
between Gold and Currency trends. The Bonds tend slightly correlates.
Da Vinci Code - God - Jesus - Christian - The strongest related trends out
of these four is God and Christian which are hand in hand.
Iran - God - Jesus - The shocking trend in these three is the 1st Quarter of
2006. Direct correlations that shoot to the roof.
AMD - Intel - IBM - The trend on Google at least is showing that AMD is
losing ground in interest related to Intel in 2006. However AMD has a peculiar
cyclical cycle that shows a lull through the middle of every year with Intel not
showing this trend.
PS3 - Xbox 360 - Nintendo - Due to current product releases Xbox 360 shows a
clear lead on these terms. The Wii product from Nintendo doesn't show yet.
Illegal Immigration - Minutemen - Border Patrol - If illegal immigration
were a stock it would have been wonderful to be in it Jan 1st, 2006.
Aztlan - Illegal Immigration --
Illegal Immigration - Aztlan - these two sets of keywords show how Google
Trends works with Regions and order of terms.
Coke - Pepsi - Too bad, I like Coke but Pepsi has kept the lead although 2nd
quarter of 2006 shows a possible trending tie.
Nuclear War - Iran Nuclear - Just interesting to see the amazing spike in
2006 with these two.
Illegal Immigration - Gringo *Gringo = American in Spanish is a derogatory
word. These two don't trend together much at all but my guess is that they will.
American Idol - Miss USA - these are interesting to see how strong American
Idol is and how high interest grows in the end of the season.
Walmart - Target - Kmart - Walmart and Target are a perfect direct
correlation but it is surprising that Target holds the lead in the trend almost
all 3 years.
Books - CD - Movies - these all contain strong direct correlations and
fluctuate in the Holiday season. It is shocking to see the CD had in 2004 tied
up in 2005
and now in 2006 has completely lost the lead and Movies have taken over. I would
have guessed the losing trend to happen sooner.
New Years - Easter - Halloween - Thanksgiving - Christmas - just plain cool
to see the holidays take hold of the trend in this set.
Fourth of July - Fireworks - Thanksgiving - New Years - I never would have
known about the interest in fireworks around Thanksgiving, just plain weird.
Iran - Devil - nothing too revealing here just an interesting look at the
two compared.
Mexican Food - Italian Food - Chinese Food - Japanese Food - I never would
have been able to guess the leads. Great correlations here with seasons/terms.
Toyota - Honda - Hyundai - Nissan - The lead was predictable. The sustained
spacing of the trend is impressive and the correlations are exact.
Honda - Ford
- Honda seems to have a tough time with the 4th and 1st Quarters. As of now they
are clearly taking off due to gas prices.
Baseball - Basketball - Football - Soccer - This is fun to look at as it
shows the popularity but Football has two meanings so this trend isn't
completely stable.
Egold - HYIP - 12DailyPro - Direct correlations between an ecurrency, a HYIP
and the most popular HYIP in history. Interesting.
Best Buy - Circuit City - Ah, the winner should be obvious but the trends
move so beautifully together.
Pregnancy - Abortion - Baby Names - Direct correlations between Pregnancy
and Baby Names and a trending seasonal abortion interest.
Bill Clinton - Impeach - Not that I ever thought it should have happened
it's just an interesting look. Some interest in Impeachment during Bush's term.
Boxers - Briefs - Oh come on, you know you want to know. Interesting decline
in interest of any undergarments end of 2nd Quarter in 2004.
iPod - MP3 - Obviously some direct correlations that are seasonal and
product use. Apple has come a long way with the iPod since mid-2004.
Earthquake - Hurricane - Tsunami - The impact of these disasters is easily
seen here and is interesting to see the stronger trend natural disasters.
Crest - Colgate
- Not too much correlation here but a very clear leader. Comparing the leader
with events, holidays and other teeth events would be cool.
Spring - Summer - Fall - Winter - Everyone clearly loves one season over all
the rest. The big spike in Winter in 2006 is puzzling to me.
Padres - Giants - Royals - Cyclical moves here are obvious but the different
spikes are sometimes mysterious. Maybe just a really good week?
Barry Bonds - Babe Ruth - Hank Aaron - The Babe is amazing strong in a
consistent trend as Barry pops in and out as he beats away at baseballs.
Cat - Dog - Bird - Fish - Ok, ok, I'm a freak I like cats more. But is
interesting to see the battle between cats and fish. Would be interesting to see
over decades.
Murder - Drugs - there are some direct correlations here, but overall they
aren't too directly related. There are some seasonal things going on too.
Contact Lenses - Lasik - the battle between these two trends is interesting
to see but is puzzling to me why in 2006 there is a clear leader.
Jay Leno - David Letterman - I'm glad to see the winner as is. This is a
good one to play with and view cities on. Change the order and view the change
in cities.
David Letterman seems to have big spikes which is probably a highly celebrated
guest.
Conan Obrien - Jimmy Kimmel - These two battle it out very closely. Jimmy
Kimmel has very large random spikes like Letterman.
Super Bowl, NCAA, Oscars, Election - NCAA has the consistent trend, the
others change with elections changing for obvious reasons.
Good, Evil
- 2004 had a very bizarre evil trend. There is no battling here, it's a clear
winner. Whew!
San Diego, Los Angeles - It's absolutely amazing to see how close the trend
is with these two cities. New York flattens the detail out so it's left out.
Orange Juice, Apple Juice, Grape Juice, Cranberry Juice - Direct
correlations, cyclical consumption and entertaining results on the winning
trends.
Miller Beer, Bud Beer, Coors Beer You can also use "Lite" in place of Beer
for similar results
Miller Lite, Bud Lite, Coors Lite the two differences between these two show
some of the weaknesses of Google Trends.
Vodka, Whiskey, Rum * Note the rise in use in 2006 and the season
fluctuations
Liquor, Beer, Alcohol * Note Liquor strictly trends around the holidays and
the others are not so significant.
Liquor this individual trend on it's own shows more detail and specific.
Quit Smoking the typical news resolution and other mid year attempts.
Cigarettes you can see the gradual decline of trend from 2004 - 2006. Good
news!
Britney Spears watch her fateful decline in popularity throughout the world
from 2004 - 2006
Volunteer you can see the Katrina Volunteer spike, the one before that I'm
not sure what it is.
Donate you can see the same Katrina Volunteer spike, the one before might be
the Tsunami?
Child Abuse you will see that child abuse is worse in winter, dies down in
summer and has a sharp drop around Christmas and before New Years.
Abortion you will find very similar trends with abortion. Worse in winter,
dies in summer and briefly disappears around Christmas.
Recycle what a New Years Resolution, hah! Everyone loves to Recycle on New
Years Day, if only the passion continued. Media definitely helps recycling.
Environmental as a smack in the face of direct opposite trend from
Recycling, Environmental concerns are absent during Christmas, news included.
The Apprentice this clearly shows the slow decline in interest in one of my
favorite shows. What's the Donald to do? Drop off seems to have leveled.
Survivor, The Apprentice this is pretty cool as it shows the interest in
these shows operate the same.
Grey's Anatomy this show just keeps on picking up popularity although it has
a weird spike in 2006.
Digital Camera oddly enough to me, consumer demand is dying for these
products. In fact in 2006 there is an abnormal decline. Economy not so good?
HD TV clearly you can see that eventually you need one of these great TVs.
Everyone else is doing it. LoL.
Cellphone these trends seem to be average for the most part, although 2005
was more active than 2004. Stable investments?
Sprint, Verizon Wireless, Cingular, Nextel no it's not all of them and they
hard to compare because of the extra keywords: PCS, Wireless, etc.
Darfur I think you can say that Darfur is starting to get the attention it
needs to stop the Genocide. Thanks Clooney.
Ben Folds, Ben Folds Five my favorite artist is doing well with his career.
However his past band you can clearly see them fading into the past.
Stress, Debt yes they are definitely correlated as if you couldn't get guess
that. However, I am noticing that everything goes down on Christmas. No
searching!
McDonalds, Wendy's, Burger King, Taco Bell guess who is the winner out of
these moguls? You guessed it, it's good old Mickey D's still. Apprentice helped
Burger King with their televised campaigns. Trend was up for months!
Mothers Day, Fathers Day from 2004 to 2005 there was a rise in trend for
Fathers Day but a drop in Mothers. But Mothers clearly beat the fathers! Notice
the
weird double trend. First interest, probably for products, then the actual day.
Xbox, Playstation, Nintendo as surprising as it is due to market dominance,
Xbox dominates the trend for the whole time period. There is an interesting
mid-Year trend created by the E3 conference.
Depression the summer months are clearly the winner on the down-trend for
depression. July seems to be the defining low point in the trend.
Makeup, Cosmetics Makeup seems to have it's lowest trend in June, after that
it trails back up for summer. The spike you see is October which would account
for the obvious best time in year to sell makeup, Halloween!
Makeup, Halloween one flaw of the Google trend machine is that you can't see
sharp contrasts when traffic is high for one item like Halloween.
Toothpaste, Toothbrush it was hard to find a relation to a surge for
Halloween, but these two clearly trend together except at odd spikes in the
trend.
Haircut, Hair Style these two trend together nicely. In 2005 a very large
trend shows high activity starting in July.
Checking Account, Savings Account these two trend together closely but by
2006 demand dies for Savings Accounts and Checking Account skyrockets!
Car Repair, Car Problems slightly trend together but Car Repair definitely
has an awakening in the summer time.
Economy, Unemployment there are some direct correlations but one thing is
obvious, no cares about the economy during the summer time.
Xanga, MySpace, Facebook these social phenomenon sites are trending up, but
the clear winner is obvious here. Any guesses before clicking?
AIM, Messenger, ICQ this one is hard because AIM is such a vague term. These
are instant messaging services. Clear winner if only the trends were correct.
Manicure, Pedicure this is one of the first trends I've found that isn't
effected by the Christmas searchless bug. Strong business! Manicures win over
Pedicures
but they still trend very well together. April seems to start the rise in trend
for these services. October has a bizarre spike.
Face Lift, Tummy Tuck these don't trend too much together but New Years
resolutions effects both for the uptrend. Tummy tuck has an almost amusing spike
at the beginning of June, the spike is so strong in 2005 it's ridiculous. 2006
will be interesting to see.
Tummy Tuck, Liposuction there are mild correlations with these trends.
Liposuction is the clear winner here. There was a very strong down turn in the
end of
2005 for interest in Liposuction, your guess is as good as mine, or better!
Interest Rates, Debt I'm fond of the debt correlations as it seems to rule
our lives. There are correlations here and interest rates are all over the
board.
Beer, Depression Men don't want to admit it, but their depression is related
to beer interest. The only exception is summer where Beer soars to the sky.
Violence, Depression No doubt here, violence is definitely correlated with
depression as depression is correlated with seasonal trends and holiday trends.
UPS, Fedex here is another winner that fights the Christmas searchless
trend. It's obvious why but still good to see. Clear winner is... any guesses?
USPS, UPS, Fedex another quick look at the shipping industry. USPS seems to
overtake Fedex routinely but this is probably due to the fact that they use
Fedex for most of their Priority and Express services.
UPS, Fedex, DHL one last look at the package shipping industry without USPS
to make the graphs more viewable. DHL might as well be Fedex!
Travel, Summer one that we all know for sure. They tell us gas gets more
expensive in summer because people travel. I suppose they are telling the truth.
From
a quick look on the travel graph, I surely don't see why airline tickets are
more expensive during Thanksgiving and Christmas. Next!
Travel, Airline Tickets, Winter nothing very exciting here. It's hard to get
a read on air travel because it's a lower trend. Let me know any suggestions.
Sunscreen, Sunburn as if you couldn't guess this trend. It is interesting
however. March has an odd jump in 2005 in Sunburns as opposed to 2004. And even
a little bit scary is the drastic increase in the Sunburn trend in 2005 opposed
to 2004. I hope 2006 doesn't trump this. Global warming?
One very interesting look at Sunscreen and Sunburn is looking at the Region tab.
You will see that Brazil has an extremely strong Sunscreen
trend and virtually the lack of any trending in Sunburn. Either they don't get
Sunburns or they are ahead in the game with the US!
Tornado, Twister, Hail the trend shows that tornado interest starts about
April and continues on all the way to mid-November. Twister and Hail do not have
much correlation with the search term Tornado.
Crime this trend shows a disturbing trend in the news that is produced
covering crime. It has slowly increased from 2004 all the way into 2006 and
continues it's
crawl upward. The trend
does show there is a bump in crime in November. The trend seems to refute the
belief crime interest increases in summer.
Crime, Prison, Jail there are direct correlations with all of these trends.
There is an obvious correlation between prison and jail. A bizarre trend seems
to appear in
2006 as Prison overtakes Crime.
Ass as if in direct relation to the acceptance of societies use of the term
ass and other derogatory terms usage has increased from 2004 to 2006 steadily
with
significant spikes in the summer of 2005
and a sharp upward trend in the second quarter of 2006.
Surfing looks a little lower in the trend in 2006 but looks to be rising for
the rest of the year.
Deal or No Deal this show has sky rocketed in popularity. Weirdest part
about this trend is it is WAY stronger in the UK. They like our TV Show more
than us!
Carpet Cleaning seems to trend up towards the middle of the summer. US and
Australia are the most interested in clean carpets.
Aquarium one search term that goes against the drop in Christmas searching
it also trends up in summer.
Google Trends this one is hilarious. The strongest search volume is in India
which shows very clearly this product was developed in India. In development
since
December 2006.
Gmail this one caught me off guard, Gmail doesn't even list the US or any
cities as the top 10. Gmail use is gradually going up which is good for their ad
revenue.
Adwords, Adsense as interest in adwords continues to go up, Adsense has
overtaken Adwords in the 2nd quarter of 2005. India is the clear leader in
interest with
Adsense. Canada, Ireland, and the UK all also beat US in interest of Adsense.
Heater, Air Conditioner this trend is obvious but is interesting nonetheless
to view and see how they work in tandem with each other.
Ice Cream another predictable trend but it is still interesting to see. July
is the clear leader for ice cream and the US takes them all with a strong trend.
Coffee, Red Bull these two correlate along with the bizarre spike coffee has
in mid-2005.
Ryan Seacrest, Simon Cowell, Paula Abdul, Randy Jackson out of all of the
American Idol judges and host, Paula Abdul seems to keep the winning trend.
Movie Theater, Theme Park these two work in tandem in the summer months.
Mid-July is the winner for summer and Movie Theaters have their next strong but
predictable trend around Thanks Giving and then their next trend is obviously
Christmas.
Theme Park, Water Park these trends correlate perfectly together and in the
summer Water Park completely takes over the trend and peaks in mid-July.
College, School these two trend well together. Searches are down obviously
for Thanksgiving and Christmas but on Jan 1st the trend shoots up. This is
either New
Years resolutions or this is when people have to start remember they are going
back to school soon after Christmas break.
Fireworks this keyword trend is stronger in the UK than the US. It's
interesting to see that Thanksgiving has a stronger trend for fireworks than New
Years.
Tires, Transportation these trend fairly well together and it's interesting
to see that interest drops strongly in Tires in the 1st Quarter of the year.
Romance it's sad to see that the US is lacking in Romance. Chile takes the
lead with this one. In 2004 there wasn't much romance in the world and 2005 took
over
with a very strong trend. It's amazing to see such a difference in 2004 and
2005. Anyone have a suggestion as to what might be going on here?
Snake Bite, Dog Bite these don't trend together to much but are similar in
traffic volume and both go up in the summer obviously.
Bee Sting this trend is interesting to see how strongly it changes in the
summer months. New Zealand takes first place on Bee Stings.
Guitar, Drums the clear winner hear is probably obvious but it's interesting
to see by how much. Guitar trends high during Christmas, which is also
predictable.
Google, Yahoo, MSN why anyone would search for a search engine on a search
engine, I have no clue, but the 2006 trend shows Google and MSN neck in neck.
With as broad as these terms are it is more of a online brand search than search
engine.
Marijuana this one trends down in the summer surprisingly but laughably goes
up in November and December. Too much stress during the holidays?
Stock Market this is one I would expect the US to be #1 in but is clearly
not. Each year does not correlate with the last much at all.
Bed this one oddly trends much higher in the summer. More people are looking
for a bed in the summer.
Insomnia, Ambien these ones do trend together with Insomnia bumping up in
Summer and shooting up after New Years.
Commercials this one is controlled by the famous US Super Bowl and the
highly sought after commercials.
Super Bowl the trend is obvious with this but the amazing lead 2004 has on
2005 and 2006 is impressive.
Super Bowl, World Series the winner is obvious but it's amazing how much
stronger the trend is for the Super Bowl. World Series alone is more consistent.
Orchestra the holiday spirit rules the desire of orchestra's. The trend is
consistent and mild the rest of the year.
Sirius, XM these are satellite radio terms. This clearly shows Sirius
whooped XM in the holiday market of 2005. Good for my stock.
Prozac, Effexor, Wellbutrin these are three major antidepressants. Against
seasonal depression disorders these all seem to trend higher in mid-summer.
After the
first of the year they also trend higher than the rest of the year.
Space, Mars, Aliens, Nasa media and press releases sure are a boon to all
activities and things associated with space.
UFO, Airforce, Military, Army there are some basic and small correlations
with UFO interest in 2004 and all associated. The Airforce correlation is more
defined.
Trombone, Trumpet, Flute, Clarinet, Basoon Battle of the instruments! As you
will see the Flute has never lost it's lead and the Trumpet was close behind.
Now I see why in high school I was so eagerly encouraged to play the trombone.
Haha!
Cable TV, Satellite TV - Even though Satellite TV would like you to believe
everyone is running from Cable to them the trend is steady and correlates
perfectly. A
bizarre trend is that interest in both TV services go up in the summer! Isn't
that when people are more active and outside?
